Celebrity Hairstyles January 19, 2012 at 6:28 am
What’s going on in hair fashion I wonder? Celebrities like Rihanna hollister , Halle Berry and David Beckham are always in the limelight. Rihanna’s Bold and bright colouring enables her to stand out in any crowd. Halle’s short and funky hairstyle gives her a persona and attitude to die for. David’s innovative and modern take on old hairstyles have mesmerized the general public.
But where did these modern day icon’s get their ideas from? And what have they used to implement these new found changes in modern hairstyles?
Looking back (and by back, I mean way back) to the pre-historic days of no television, first world wars and horses for transport we have “The bob”. Celebrities of the 1920′s supporting this immensely popular women’s hairstyle include the fabled Colleen Moore, who featured throughout the silent film era and starred in such films as “The bad boy” and “The little American”. This particular hairstyle was where a person would crop their hair between their chin to their ear level and work in uniform waves. For obvious reasons (the look primarily) this hair style became outdated by the 1950′s. I may add however, that some diehard individuals still sport this look, mothers and less fashionable individuals mostly.
Then in the 1950′s, fashionable icons like Elvis and Johnny Cash came into the public eye, sporting the “Pompadour”. This was created by combing the hair against the sides, but pulling the hair up and over on itself on top. Arguably the most influential men’s haircut of all time, the “Pompadour” will forever be worn at every karaoke and Elvis convention. You will have to travel far to avoid seeing it.
Skip a few years and you enter the “Ducktail” era. Give a man a fish and he can eat for one day. Give a man a comb and perhaps a tub of grease and he will brush his hair all day. Men in the latter part of the 1950′s were known for their obsessive combing, best demonstrated in the film “Grease”.
We have so far had “The Bob”, “The Pompadour” and “The Ducktail”, all very interesting haircuts by today’s standards. But then came The Beatles. Not only did they change music forever, they changed the way we look too. “The Shag” – as it was known, essentially is any cut that’s grown out and messy. Look at any Green Day loving Emo fanatic out there and you will see for yourself that The Beatles image (and music may I add) is still very much at the core of modern society. Footballer Cesc Fabregas was recently seen sporting an adaption of this infamous hair cut and any Justin Bieber fan will tell you that his long fringe and curly locks look surprisingly similar to that of iconic Jonn Lennon in his hay day.
But what do we have now that they didn’t? In a nutshell, technology. The introduction of the Internet has meant that cheap redken for men are now widely available online from websites like . But it seems like hair products are not the only thing available online. You can hire a celebrity too.
